Caring and Storing your E-Bike battery pack in the winter

Posted by Nicholas Ong on

Now that winter is here, many of us are not taking our E-Bikes on those rides we all enjoy so much. Before you put your bikes away for the winter, make sure you remove the battery and store it indoors. Here are a few tips that will help you maintain the health of your battery and have you back out again in the spring time.

1. Store your batteries at room temperature

Keep your battery in temperature above 0c or 32F, ideally between 20c to 25c or 68F to 77F. Do not charge the battery under 0c or above 40c.

2. Allow partial discharges and avoid full ones

Lithium-ion batteries do not have a charge memory. That means deep discharge cycles are not required. Completely discharging batteries may result in the batteries not recharging, and may be dangerous to recharge. Only battery analyzers with boost function have a chance of recharging those batteries.

3. When storing batteries for extended period, discharge to about 50 percent and store in a cool dry place.

Take your battery out of storage every month to check the level. Taking care of your battery will ensure you get maximum life out of your expensive battery.
